Russ Wiebel will be missed

To the editor:

When I found out that Russ Wiebel had left this earth, I was shocked. Russ was definitely one of a kind. No one was or is like Russ.

When you were around Russ, you knew that he was with you and no one else. He had a way of making you feel comfortable. When you played golf with Russ, you always knew it was going to take longer than usual because golfers would seek Russ out and talk to him.

I saw conversations carried on from fairway to fairway and even across fairways. Russ was well known because of his radio broadcasts of basketball and football and his involvement in athletics in general. He was not a pretentious person nor was he a member of the I, Me, My or Mine society. When you were around Russ, he always made you feel good. Like many others, I'm going to miss Russ and I will never forget his easy going and friendly demeanor.

No tuition for illegal immigrants

To the editor:

I was watching CNN's Lou Dobbs and heard that Maryland is thinking about providing tuition for illegal immigrants. They are law breakers! What's this all about? I don't want my tax dollars going to educate a law breaker.

If they want to come into this country. do it the way millions of others have. Then they can pay for their education just like everyone else.

We have a big problem with illegal immigrants in this country; why can't our politicians deal with it like real men instead of making all kinds of concessions for pacification?

People, let your delegates know this is not your wish.

Thanks for assist

To the editor:

My husband and I would like very much like to thank the two fine gentlemen, who helped us a week or so ago on Pennsylvania Avenue near Fountain Head Plaza.

Our car died in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue and Club Road on Friday in the middle of afternoon traffic. Thank you both for pushing our vehicle off the road. Your help was very much appreciated. Thanks again for being there!

Bad directions

To the editor:

You frequently run maps and directions to various news locations, but the accuracy of these is often poor. Here are recent examples and both were within a two-block walk of your office.

The stories a couple weeks back about the Tusing warehouse off the unit block of East Washington Street had a map showing the building extending south from East Washington Street when it clearly is on the north side of the street and set back at least 100 feet from the sidewalk.

Sunday, Feb. 4, your front page story regarding Hager's Row shops claims it is off South Potomac Street, a claim you have made before - though there is no way you can get there from Potomac - it is down a path south from West Washington Street beside the Dog House, though your reporter Tamela Baker and photographer Joe Crocetta probably did not use either street, going up the alleys from your offices to Hager's Row.

If you can make such absurd mistakes within a few blocks' walk from your offices, how can anyone trust your maps, etc. of more distant locations?

W. Bernard Randolph

(Editor's note: The map was in error and a correction ran. On Hager's Row, some shops do have South Potomac Street mailing addresses.)
