For exemplary service to local children, Julie Rohm has received the Sylvan M. Cohen Community Service Award. Rohm, the assistant general manager of Valley Mall, also serves as a volunteer and board member for the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.

"Julie has been an awesome advocate for local children through her involvement with the Boys & Girls Club," said Buck Browning, director of development for the Boys & Girls Club. "She has been involved in just about every aspect of our program from summer camp to fundraising to field trips. She has truly been a friend to local children."

Rohm's accomplishments with the Boys & Girls Club include chairing the ONE Campaign Annual Appeal Committee, chairing the Silent Auction Committee, sponsoring Youth of the Year dinners, implementing new outreach programs and volunteering at numerous functions.

Sylvan Cohen was the founder of the Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, which operates shopping malls including Valley Mall in Hagerstown and Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick, Md. The Sylvan M. Cohen Community Service Award was created in memory of the former PREIT chairman.

PREIT made a $1,000 contribution to the Boys & Girls Club in Rohm's name.
