February 10, 2007

CASCADE - Firefighters were at the scene of a house fire in Cascade for hours Friday, a Washington County dispatcher said.

Crews were dispatched to the fire on MacFee Hill Road at 5:52 p.m., the dispatcher said. Firefighters still were there as of 10 p.m.

The fire displaced a family of five, Bob McEnroe, a disaster volunteer with the American Red Cross' Washington County Chapter, said Friday night. The family is staying with relatives.

The Red Cross assisted at the scene. McEnroe said the structure was an older, two-story house.

"It's totally destroyed," he said.

The Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Department was the company in charge at the scene.

No one at the fire station was available to comment on the fire Friday night. No more information was available about the fire or the names of family members.
