Skate park idea shot down

February 09, 2007|by KATE S. ALEXANDER

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - No vote was needed Monday evening for Greencastle Borough Council to decide it would not support a citizen's request for a skateboarding facility.

The council received a letter from Eric Jansen dated Jan. 7 stating a need for a skateboarding facility for teenagers.

Council president Charles Eckstine said that a local park had looked into the matter a few years ago and found that its insurance company would not insure the park if it had a skateboarding facility.

"In insurance, this is a no-no," councilman Don Coldsmith said. "No one wants the liability exposure."

Council members decided a response will be sent to Jansen, detailing the council's decision and reasons.
