Council of Arts seeks self-portraits

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Council for the Arts is seeking entries for "Saving Face," an exhibition of self-portraits. Area residents ages 7 and older are invited to submit self-portraits - either two- or three-dimensional, realistic or abstract - to be displayed at the council's gallery, 159 S. Main St., from Friday, May 25, through Friday, July 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Finished self-portraits will be hung at the council on a first-come, first-served basis, and should be delivered to the council between Tuesday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 15, during regular office hours. Works may be created in any medium, but should be framed (two-dimensional works) and family-friendly.

An entry fee of $5 will be charged, and $150 in cash prizes will be awarded. First-place awards will be given for the following groups: adult (including college students), grades nine through 12, grades six through eight, and grades two through five.

Christian poetry contest announced

A $1,000 grand prize is being offered in a special poetry contest sponsored by Christian Poets Guild. There are 50 prizes in all totaling $5,000.

To enter, send a poem of 21 lines or less to Free Poetry Contest, 1638 Dogwood Lane, Ackworth, GA 30102-1820. Or enter on the Web at The deadline for entering is Wednesday, Feb. 14. There is no cost to enter the contest.

Poems may be written on any subject, using any style.
