High school parking to be discussed today

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Waynesboro Borough Council and officials from the Waynesboro Area School District are scheduled to meet today, and one of the leading issues presented by the council will be parking around the high school during its ongoing construction project.

To address immediate concerns about traffic congestion in the afternoons, the council voted 4-2 on Wednesday to close East Second Street daily from Virginia Avenue to North Enterprise Avenue.

The closure would be "only during a period in the afternoon when they load students on the buses," Street Committee Chairman Allen Porter said.

The council will be seeking more far-reaching solutions at the meeting.

"At the next council meeting, we might totally change this," Porter said of the East Second Street closure.

Councilmen Allen Berry and Jason Stains opposed the vote to close East Second Street in the afternoons.

Officials inspect sewer system

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Borough and contracted engineers crawled through portions of the storm water system last week, discovering several structural issues.

"As far as any major obstructions, there was only one, and that has existed for quite some time," Borough Engineer Kevin Grubbs said, referring to a gas line.

Crews entered the system at West Fifth Street just west of South Potomac Street. They crawled to Ninth Street and plan to return to the system when temperatures rise.
