In the newsroom, Pepper Ballard has been named Sunday reporter. Ballard worked for The Herald-Mail as a summer newsroom intern in 2000, then was hired in 2002 as a part-time community reporter. She moved into a full-time capacity, as education reporter later that year, and most recently covered cops and courts.
She is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown Community College and Hood College.
On the part-time front, John O'Brien has joined the Sports Department as a stringer. A graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School, he previously worked for Prettyman Broadcasting, Anchor Industries, The (Martinsburg) Journal and 1871 Media in Charleston, W.Va.
