MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Martinsburg City Council voted 5-1 to allow Mayor George Karos to proceed with the purchase of about seven acres for future recreation development adjacent to Oatesdale Park, the municipality's acting legal counsel confirmed Thursday.

Councilman Donald Anderson voted against allowing the mayor to sign a real estate contract, Norwood Bentley III said. Fifth Ward Councilwoman Betty Gunnoe was absent.

The city is expected to pay Martinsburg residents Jeff and Denise Boehm of Tailwind Investment Properties LLC $270,000 for the acreage, officials said. The Boehms, of 510 N. Tennessee Ave., are the only members of Tailwind Investment Properties LLC, which was organized Aug. 25, 2003, according to Internet-based records maintained by West Virginia Secretary of State Betty Ireland's office.

Karos said Wednesday the wooded property could be added to the 22-acre Oatesdale Park off Tavern Road in the future, and also noted a home is on the property.
