Sports Connection team takes title

The Sports Connection team from Hagerstown captured the championship at the 100 percent Raw Powerlifting Federation World Championships held in Currituck, N.C.

Brian LaPole set a world record (450 pounds) in the bench press and was named the Outstanding Lifter of the competition. He received the World Championship Belt.

Six other members of the team set world records: Melody Stocks (bench press, 155 pounds); Jack Spidel (bench press, 410 pounds); Bob Dalhamer (bench press, 260); Kathy McGee (bench press, 75 pounds); Doc Junkins (bench press, 200 pounds) and Tresa Wiles (bench press, 75 pounds).

Stocks, Spidel. Dalhamer, McGee, LaPole, Junkins and Wiles all claimed overall championships in their age and weight groups.

The Raw Dogs Team of North Carolina had won the national title every year since 1999.
