Rhodes receives honor

An eighth-grader at Clear Spring Middle School was named Youth of the Month for January at Tuesday's Washington County Commissioners meeting.

Kirsten D. Rhodes received the honor, also known as the Youth Meritorious Award.

Kirsten's academic achievements include the Distinguished Honor Roll.

She has participated in the seventh-grade spelling bee, tutors other students and received Star Awards in sixth and seventh grades, according to information provided by the county.

Kirsten also has received Character Counts! recognitions.

She has been active with Jump Rope for Heart and planted a tree on church grounds in memory of a child who died, according to the information.

"Kirsten has been nominated because she is cooperative, kind to others and an extremely motivated student," the information states.
