The Organ Donation Medal of Honor is presented to hospitals for achieving and sustaining a donation rate of 75 percent or more of eligible donors. Washington County Hospital's donation rate - percentage of families approached with the option of donation that chose to donate their loved ones' organs - was 87.5 percent, up from 2005 when the hospital received the medal for a rate of 83 percent. In 2006, the hospital had five organ donors and 13 tissue donors. From the five organ donors, multiple organs were donated, helping an average of four to five people per donor.
