You Said It

"I'm glad to see that we have lots of places to relocate for lower gas prices. To the person who said to move - FYI, we are just trying to help everyone see the disparity in the prices. This is totally crazy and we need someone to step up and take a stand with these owners in Washington County."

"Attention people, gas was selling for a $1.99 at the Freestate station in Frederick and in Hagerstown is running about $2.17. Do you go to a grocery store that has higher prices? It's about time we the people go out of our way to buy gas somewhere else for about three weeks and see if the gas prices come down. If it sits in the ground, they aren't making any profit. Get the prices the same as Frederick. Remember, a penny saved is a penny earned."

"Raising the minimum wage is just the right thing to do, no matter what the fallout is. Anyone opposed to it is only thinking of themselves and not the person working who needs the additional income. If costs of services go up, so be it. The ones using the services might pay slightly more but the additional money is now being provided by all taxpayers and charities. So if the small business can't afford to pay a more respectable wage, it goes out of business and another business picks up the business and hires additional employees. It's a wash and everyone knows it. By the way, I have a very good income and will not be directly affected either way."

"This is to the Hagerstown caller confused about a smoking ban in bars/restaurants. The difference between smoking and drinking is that when someone is guzzling drink after drink, it doesn't affect my liver. When you're in a bar or restaurant or any other place that has people smoking, though, the smoke goes everywhere."

"The recent news item regarding the proposed sale of the American Legion home on Northern Avenue mentioned that the building 'has been around since about the 1940s.' This date is incorrect. It was probably built in the early 1900s and used as a country club until Fountain Head Country Club was built in the 1920s. At one time, the building was used briefly as a nursing home. Originally there was a lovely large porch and a second floor, which were removed following a destructive fire during the late 1940s. Does anyone know when the original club was actually built?"

"The way to beat the minimum wage is to improve oneself by education or experience to a higher wage. That some feel that some school subjects are too hard indicates why there will always be a minimum. In fact, the minimum wage should never have been at all."

"It's time we the citizens of the U.S. begin to push our congressmen to begin impeachment proceedings against George Bush, for crimes against humanity and society in general. This man is so delusional about what is going on in the world, in America, even in his own backyard, that it's ridiculous. This man has sent young men and women to their deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq. This was unnecessary. He also based this on false fabricated information. We began impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon for this sort of thing. Impeachment proceedings were also brought against Mr. Clinton for much less trivial things."

"My State of the Union address: Our ports and borders are no safer, our airports are no safer, Osama bin Laden has never been found. New Orleans and Mississippi are just as devastated today as a year ago. The administration has run up the largest deficit in U.S. history, all while the housing market crashes, taking jobs with it. They have shifted the wealth from the middle class to the very wealthy. They have not only ignored global warming, but they have actively tried to cover it up. They have ruined our reputation and image around the world."

"When are the town officials gonna start allowing the deputies to do their jobs in Williamsport? We need law and order now."

"I have a neighbor that gets a lot of financial aid, but I don't understand how she can afford to buy cigarettes and drink beer all the time and have a cell phone, and only work part time. I can't afford a cell phone. I can't afford any kind of booze or cigarettes. I just don't think this is right."

- Hagerstown

"In reference to states wanting to ban smoking in a lot of these restaurants and establishments, I feel that they should do something with this because I think it's really ridiculous that people such as myself can't go out to a restaurant to eat, to enjoy a meal without people smoking around them. If these people who smoke and all want to go out to a restaurant just to smoke, then maybe they should stay at home and do their smoking. These other people such as nonsmokers shouldn't have to put up with these people. "
