Pa. man dies in crash

January 27, 2007

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Spring Run, Pa., man was killed Friday when his car veered off Mongol Hill Road in Southampton Township and struck two embankments and a tree, according to police and the Franklin County coroner.

Wesley L. Scofield, 35, of 21133 Kling Road in Spring Run, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:58 p.m. crash, Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey Conner said.

Scofield was driving alone in a 1997 Oldsmobile when the car crossed the opposing lane, struck an embankment, drove several hundred feet through a farmer's field and struck another embankment, sending the car into the air, over a farm lane and into a tree, Conner said.

Conner did not release Scofield's cause of death, but said an autopsy will be performed Sunday at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, Pa.
