Gift-wrapping fundraiser earns more than $20,000 for Red Cross

January 26, 2007

Julie Barr-Strasburg, executive director of the Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross, announced that the 2006 Caring Hands Gift Wrap project held this past holiday season at Valley Mall netted $20,395.43 after expenses - the most collected in 15 years.

The proceeds will be used to help fund Red Cross emergency services in Washington County throughout the year.

A total of 1,170 volunteer wrappers, who are the "Hands and Heart" of the operation, made this community project a success. Sponsors were United Parcel Services, Thrivent Financial Services, Cosmic Pet Products and Maryland Ribbon.

"The 'Caring Hands Gift Wrap' project would not be possible without the continued support of our partner The Valley Mall," Barr-Strasburg said. "The Valley Mall management team has been very supportive and their community spirit and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

"Finally, special thank you to all the shoppers who patronized our gift wrap and helped to make our fundraising project a success. Thanks for wrapping with the Red Cross."
