Hagerstown police officer injured in struggle with male

A Hagerstown Police Department officer was injured in a struggle while responding to a report of a disturbance Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the 300 block of North Cannon Avenue, police said.

A person involved in the disturbance was wanted for a probation violation, and he was awaiting charges Wednesday night of second-degree assault and resisting arrest, police said.

Officer B. Helman was treated at Washington County Hospital and released after the incident, police said.

Helman and the male involved in the disturbance struggled when the male attempted to leave before he could be identified, police said.

According to police, the male was wanted for a bench warrant for violation of probation relating to an original charge of theft, police said.
