Man charged in home-invasion assault

January 24, 2007

A group of people beat up a man at a Broadfording Road residence after they showed up at the house claiming someone there had stolen money from an acquaintance, a Washington County District Court charging document alleges.

Stephen Wayne Rudisill, 18, of 431 Antietam Drive in Hagerstown, allegedly used a shotgun to beat the 44-year-old victim during the home-invasion assault Jan. 13 in the 16100 block of Broadfording Road, the document states.

Rudisill allegedly told police the next day that his gun was stolen, and he denied knowing any of the people involved in the home invasion, the document states.

The victim had two black eyes and facial swelling from the beating, and a female resident claimed she had been choked, the document states.

The people involved in the assault allegedly went to the home because they believed a male who lived there had stolen money from a 17-year-old girl during a drug deal earlier in the day, the document states.

The male was not home at the time, the document states.

The girl, who said she did not take part in the attack, claimed 10 to 15 people went into the house. The male victim said he saw six people, and he and the female victim each picked Rudisill out of a photo lineup.

Rudisill faces two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of armed robbery, using a dangerous weapon to inflict injury and conspiracy charges.
