A story about a speech given by Hazleton, Pa., mayor Lou Barletta on page A1 of Sunday's Herald-Mail should have said that Barletta thanked Franklin County Republican Party chairman James Taylor Sr. for his personal donation to the City of Hazleton Legal Defense Fund.

Taylor said no donation was made by the party.

Due to a reporter's error, a story about building permits issued in Berkeley County, W.Va., on page B1 of Tuesday's Morning Herald was misleading.

The story should have said that officials issued 99 building permits in 2006 for new residential developments that were given preliminary plat approval in 2006. The number of new residential lots in the residential projects approved last year totalled more than 5,800.

Including developments approved before 2006, county officials last year issued a total of 1,038 residential building permits. The number of permits issued for town houses, duplexes, apartment buildings and mobile homes are not included in the tallies.

Due to a source's error, a story about the proposed Barbara Ingram School for the Arts on page A3 of Tuesday's Morning Herald contained incorrect information about the average per-pupil expenditure in Washington County. That cost is about $8,530.

In the same story, a reporter's error incorrectly described the curriculum at the proposed school. The story should have said the students would take core classes such as math and science.

The Herald apologizes for the mistakes.
