Four men charged in Pa. robberies waive preliminary hearings

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Four of six men charged in a trio of armed robberies waived their preliminary hearings Tuesday in Franklin County Central Court.

Pedro R. Barrientos, 21, of 637 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg, Pa.; Andres B. DeJesus, 21, and Cesar Ruiz, 20, both of 13866 Carper Road, Mercersburg, Pa.; and Tyler Paul Christman, 18, of 9851 Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, Pa., were scheduled for mandatory arraignment in county court March 7, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Ferdy Machado-Morales, 23, and Ferdinand Machado-Morales, 21, both of 13866 Carper Road, were granted continuances until Feb. 6 to obtain legal counsel, according to the court records.

All but DeJesus were charged inthe Dec. 28, 2006, armed robbery of the F&M Trust Co. branch in Mont Alto, Pa., in which Pennsylvania State Police said $2,961 was stolen.


The Machado-Morales brothers and DeJesus were charged in the Dec. 21, 2006, robbery of Greencastle Beverage Distributor at 324 W. Franklin St. in Greencastle, Pa., police said.

The Machado-Morales brothers and Ruiz also were charged in the Dec. 14, 2006, holdup of E.C. Barnes at 8632 Lincoln Way West in St. Thomas, Pa., police said.

The six men and a woman, Courtney Mellott, 20, of 637 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg, were apprehended by Pennsylvania State Police in Fulton County on Jan. 2, minutes after an armed robbery at the F&M Trust Co. branch in Hustontown, Pa.

Police said they found a pellet gun, assault rifle and more than $13,000 taken from the bank when the seven, traveling in two vehicles, were stopped on U.S. 30.

The six men and Mellott were charged in the Jan. 2 F&M Trust robbery.
