Mail Call

January 23, 2007

"This is a question for the Hagerstown fire departments, all over Hagerstown, because I don't know which one called. They're calling Boonsboro residents, but we have a company down here to participate with, and I've told them I send them a check, and that's all I can do, because these older people are on a set income and we don't have it. I don't feel that they need to call down here to the southern part of the county for benefits. Although we may one day have to have them up there, that's true, I think they should stay in their own district if they possibly can."

- Boonsboro

"I'm a die-hard Steelers fan. I just want to congratulate all the Baltimore Ravens fans out there. I guess we'll hear from the team and the fans in about another 10 years. Have a nice day. Go, Steelers."

- Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

"Waah, waah, waah, the Ravens lost to the Colts. The Steelers lost to everybody. Gas prices are too high. Just get over yourselves, people. You're starting to sound like a bunch of crying babies."

- Hagerstown

"I was just calling to commend the Washington County Sheriff's Department deputies that have been patrolling Funks-town. I think they're doing a terrific job. Keep up the good work."

- Funkstown

"I just came from Frederick, where gas I saw was $2.21 a gallon. I don't where somebody keeps saying they come through Frederick and see it at $2.08, $2.10. Actually, it sounds to me like something might have to be done in Frederick County, because I bought gas in Hagerstown at $2.17 a gallon."

"I'm just reading the paper on Friday morning about this little boy named Devin coming home from a bone marrow transplant. They're gonna have a big fundraiser for him, which I think is fine, but what irritates me most of all is these little kids, especially the ones that don't have the money to pay for all this, some of them don't even get their operations or whatever it is, but yet we got money to waste to go over there in Iraq. We spend billions and billions of dollars over there, and these little kids have gotta go unprotected and (without) operations and medical care unless they have the money for it. I think it's a shame."

- Hagerstown

"I just want to thank the people for putting the traffic lights up at the Wal-Mart shopping center. It makes it a lot easier to get around. Hopefully when they put the new Wal-Mart shopping center up, once the 10-year tax exemption runs out, they'll go ahead and put those lights up in advance."

"I wish to congratulate The Herald-Mail on their efforts to force the Waynesboro school board to identify the candidates ... I hope you continue to monitor the secret school board meetings in the future."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"I just came from Falling Waters, and gas was $1.99 a gallon over there."

- Hagerstown

"I just read in the Washington Post where the Chinese shot down a satellite. If they shoot them all down, how are we gonna watch cable TV? I'm very upset. I hope Bush does something before I can't watch TV."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to know what the state and county are gonna do with the millions of dollars they have for snow removal that they didn't use this year. I don't want to see that money disappear. I think they should build another school. We could sure use it down here in Boonsboro."

- Boonsboro

"To all the fans up in Hancock that are saying about the Ravens eating crow now like the Steelers are. We might have been knocked out of the playoffs - at least we made the playoffs, and we beat your team by a combined score this year of 59 to 7, so if I was a Steelers fan, I'd go crawl under a rock somewhere."

"In Frederick on Friday, like it was one week ago and gas is still down, now it's down to $2.06 a gallon. I think Washington County better get with the act, get with the process."

- Boonsboro

"Three issues about Sharpsburg Pike: 1.) The new yield sign instead of the stop sign as you exit I-70 East onto Md. 65 South. It was bad with a stop sign and even worse with the yield. 2.) The new light at the 70W interchange by the outlets - why can't it work like the one at 70E? You have a green light at the underpass and then the left turn is red so there you sit and traffic backs up. 3.) Who is reponsible for the shrubbery at the corner of Shaprsburg Pike and Summerlin Drive? It is impossible to see to turn onto the pike during any season."

- Hagerstown

"To the person complaining about the price of gas in Hagerstown! Move to Frederick and quit whining. Gallon of gas in Frederick: $2.08; gallon of gas in Hagerstown: $2.25. Any questions?"
