Heritage students fare well at bee

January 22, 2007

Five Heritage Academy students traveled to Rockville, Md., in November to compete in the district spelling bee against students from other schools across Maryland.

Fifth-grader Jordan Patterson, sixth-grader Bryce Nigh, and seventh-graders Bryce Boyd and Abigail Morgan competed into the second and third rounds of their grade levels.

Sixth-grader Tristan Prejean competed to the final round of the sixth-grade competition and won the division. He then competed against the winners of the fifth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade divisions.

During that competition, Tristan earned a second-place finish. That victory entitles him to compete in the regional competition in Lancaster, Pa., in February. A win at the regional level would qualify him to move on to the national spelling bee competition.
