Hazleton mayor to speak at Franklin Co. GOP breakfast

January 17, 2007

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County Republican Party will hold its first countywide monthly breakfast Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Quality Inn & Suites.

The featured speaker will be Lou Barletta, the Republican mayor of Hazleton, Pa., who has led his city to pass laws to control the influx of thousands of illegal aliens whose presence threatens to bankrupt the community.

The laws have been challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union and litigation is pending. Barletta will discuss the impact of illegal immigration on his city, the legal battle over the Hazleton ordinances and what Franklin County can expect in the future if illegal aliens continue to settle in the county.

According to James B. Taylor, Franklin County chairman, the monthly breakfasts are a way to brief voters and encourage discussion on critical issues.
