New courses

Some of the new courses that will be available at Washington County public high schools in the 2007-08 school year include:

· Honors Chinese I: A functional-based secondary course in Modern Standard Chinese, or Pu Tong Hua, that incorporates and integrates topics, structures, grammar and cultural information within a framework based on a communicative approach to language learning.

· Honors Italian I: Provides the basic skills of the language. The four areas of proficiency - reading, writing, listening and speaking - are included with special emphasis on listening and speaking.

· Academic Skills and Concepts: Provides students the opportunity to prepare for demanding high school biology and government assessment coursework and the associated high school assessments required for graduation.

· Forensic Science: A laboratory-based science course designed to provide an elective science credit for senior students at Washington County Technical High School.
