Man driving vehicle kills his wife in Pa. accident

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - An Ayr Township woman was killed Friday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle driven by her husband in the driveway of their home, according to a press release from Pennsylvania State Police in McConnellsburg.

Shirley T. Prager, 82, of 946 Meadow Mountain Drive, was killed instantly in the 12:25 p.m. incident, according to the release. Coroner Daryl Heckman listed the cause of death as blunt force trauma, according to the release.

Prager and her husband, Philip C. Prager, 84, had just arrived at their home, and she had gotten out of their 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe to retrieve a plastic trash container at the end of their driveway, according to the release. As she was rolling the garbage can down the driveway toward the house, Philip Prager was following in the vehicle, according to the release.

About 65 feet down the driveway, Philip Prager's foot slipped off the brake and onto the accelerator, causing the vehicle to strike his wife, according to the release. Heckman pronounced her dead at the scene at 1:15 p.m., according to the release.

The Pragers had been married for 63 years, according to the release.

Shirley Prager was a homemaker and housewife, according to her obituary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, according to the obituary.
