Boy faces malicious destruction counts

January 13, 2007

FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick juvenile was charged with 11 counts of malicious destruction of property Wednesday after police said they found "tag" insignias in his possession during a downtown graffiti surveillance, according to a Frederick Police Department press release.

An officer was conducting surveillance at Linear Park at Carroll Creek, which has been the target of recent graffiti, and saw "youths enter the park with bicycles and backpacks," according to the release.

Officers eventually approached the youths, who turned out their backpacks. An item fell out of the charged juvenile's backpack that had an insignia on it, consistent with a graffiti "tag," according to the release.

Eleven similar tags were identified and linked to the youth, who subsequently was charged as a juvenile, according to the release.
