Snowmaking guns allow Whitetail to open today

January 12, 2007

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Whitetail Resort will be reopening its slopes today at 8:30 a.m. for skiing and snowboarding.

"We are extremely happy to see cold weather return and allow us to open on Friday after four days of solid snowmaking," said Katrina Gayman, Whitetail's director of marketing and sales.

Whitetail will be opening in time for Martin Luther King Jr. weekend with five lifts and seven trails, including First Tracks, Velvet, Northern Lights, Snow Park, Almost Home, Upper Angel Drop and Lower Angel Drop.

Whitetail Resort's snowmaking equipment includes 94 airless snowmaking guns.

"We really only need about three nights of constant snowmaking to open six or seven trails," said Gayman. "It's really amazing what our system and the current technology has allowed us to do."

"We are optimistic we hope that we will have a season that lasts well into March, and it looks like the long-term forecast supports that," said Gayman.
