Six charged in Pa. robberies

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Six members of a group charged with a Jan. 2 bank robbery in Fulton County have been charged by Pennsylvania State Police in a series of December armed robberies in Franklin County.

Ferdinand Machado-Morales, 21, and Cesar Ruiz, 20, both of 13866 Carper Road, Mercersburg, Pa., were charged with four counts each of robbery, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person and single counts of criminal conspiracy and theft for the Dec. 28, 2006, robbery of the F&M Trust Co. branch in Mont Alto, Pa.

Machado-Morales' brother, Ferdy Omar Machado-Morales, 23, also of Mercersburg; Pedro Regelio Barrientos, 21, of 637 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg, Pa.; and Tyler Paul Christman, 18, of 9851 Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, Pa., each were charged with criminal conspiracy to commit robbery and criminal conspiracy to commit theft.

Ferdinand and Ferdy Machado-Morales and Andres Borges DeJesus, 21, also of 13866 Carper Road, were charged with robbery theft, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person in the Dec. 21, 2006, robbery of Greencastle Beverage Distributor, 324 W. Franklin St., Greencastle, Pa., police said.

The Machado-Morales brothers and Cesar Ruiz, 20, also of 13866 Carper Road, were charged with robbery, criminal conspiracy, theft, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person for a Dec. 14, 2006, holdup at E.C. Barnes Inc., 8632 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa.

The charges were filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge Kelly Rock, police said. Copies of the affidavits of probable cause were not available Tuesday afternoon.

All the suspects were in Franklin County Prison, police said. Last week, police in McConnellsburg said bail on the seven ranged from $1 million to $2 million.

Trooper Aaron Martin said Tuesday that police were still investigating whether the suspects were involved with other crimes in the area.

The six men were taken into custody within minutes of an 11:18 a.m. robbery on Jan. 2 of the F&M Trust Co. branch in Hustontown, Pa., state police in Fulton County said. They and a seventh person, Courtney Mellott, 20, of 637 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg, Pa., were traveling east on U.S. 30 in two vehicles when stopped, police said. Police said more than $13,000 from the bank robbery was recovered, along with a rifle and a pellet gun.

Police in Fulton County charged the Machado-Morales brothers, Ruiz and Christman with a Dec. 30, 2006, robbery of the Sheetz in McConnellsburg.
