Funds awarded for area food, shelter programs

Washington County will receive $58,395 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area, according to a press release from the United Way of Washington County.

The Washington County Local Emergency Food and Shelter Board will determine how the funds awarded to Washington County will be distributed among emergency food and shelter programs.

Local government or private voluntary organizations chosen to receive funds must be nonprofit, have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit, practice nondiscrimination, and have demonstrated the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.

Qualifying organizations are encouraged to apply by the Jan. 20 deadline.

Washington County has previously distributed such funds to the Washington County Community Action Council, The Salvation Army, CASA Inc., Interfaith Service Coalition and St. John's Shelter for the Homeless.
