Hundreds expected to attend Ag Council dinner Feb. 1

January 09, 2007

Maryland's agricultural industry leaders will dine with state and national legislators on Thursday, Feb. 1, to celebrate the importance of Maryland's No. One industry, agriculture.

More than 700 are expected to attend the annual gala at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie sponsored by the Maryland Agriculture Council.

During the dinner, the Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame awards will be presented to two farm families that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to agriculture and the communities in which they live and work.

The agriculture council will also award several thousand dollars in grants for agricultural projects throughout the state.

The council aims to educate the public on the importance of agriculture through Ag Week shows at malls, Web sites, fairs, community shows and newsletters. The council's grant program offers money to individuals or organizations for the promotion of agriculture.
