STOP program to overcome prediabetes



Washington County Health Department and the Washington County Hospital Association will offer a program for individuals who are at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

The program will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, Jan. 11, and will continue for seven additional weeks, Jan. 18, Feb. 1, 8 and 15, March 1, 8 and 15. Classes will be held at Zion Baptist Church, 61 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown.

Aromatherapy seminar



Ellen DeCaro of Columbia, Md., will present an aromatherapy seminar at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Washington County Free Library, 100 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

DeCaro will discuss planting and growing aromatic plants in your garden. Audience members will be asked to smell and identify aromatic plants. Other topics for the seminar include: A brief description of the history of aromatherapy and how it has affected our lives through ancient times to present day; the scented room benefits; how to make scented gifts for your home using aromatherapy oils; and how to make bath bags, potpourri, sachet, herbal soap, sea salts and lavender-scented topiary. Audience members are asked to test the oils by inhaling them from blotter paper and discussing their impression of the fragrance.

Health-care expo in Frederick, Md.



FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick County Workforce Services will host the "2007 Healthcare Expo: Your Prescription for a New Career in the New Year" from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Frederick County Business and Employment Center, 5340-A Spectrum Drive. In case of inclement weather, the expo will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31.
