Kenzie Bowen of Smithsburg was named to the Dean's List at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., for the fall 2006 semester.

A 2006 graduate of Smithsburg High School, Bowen is majoring in mechanical engineering and carries at 3.737 grade-point average.

During the fall semester, Bowen also participated in the women's boxing program at Notre Dame. The Baraka Bouts raised money for Jesuit missions in Africa. Fight night was held Nov. 16, with "Kenzie Jane the Pain" winning her bout.




Mallory Geesaman, daughter of Terry Geesaman of Waynesboro, Pa., and Lori and Steven Wriston of Hagerstown, was named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

To be eligible for the honor, a student must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits and achieve a semester quality-point average of at least a 3.50.

Geesaman, a sophomore at Clarion, also volunteered at WCUB-TV, a fully student-run organization which offers learning opportunities for students in all aspects of television production and management. She is pursuing a degree in secondary education social studies/citizenship (B.S.Ed.)




On Dec. 11, a graduation ceremony was held at Western Maryland Hospital Center for the pastoral care students of hospital Chaplain David Baker. Since August, the students have been meeting bimonthly for special instruction and practice in pastoral care methodology. Each student completed a minimum of 100 hours in the program. Cindy Socks, the Rev. Jerry Lowans, the Rev. John Cozzoli, Barbara Neumann, Etta Fuller, Linda Shelton, Nancy Morris, The Rev. David Baker, and Fran Nicholls. Neumann and Fuller completed a similar program last spring.
