Panhandle troopers responsible for 81 DUI arrests

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - West Virginia State Police troopers assigned to the Eastern Panhandle arrested 81 people for driving under the influence in December, which was designated as National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month, the law enforcement agency announced Friday.

Jefferson County had 41 DUI arrests in December, while Berkeley County had 37 arrests and Morgan County had three, according to a press release from Sgt. Jay Powers of the agency's public affairs division.

The troopers assigned to the Charles Town (W.Va.) Detachment who recorded multiple DUI arrests in December were M.L. Dickerson, K.W. Martin, M.J. Glende, V.E. Branham, J.M. Bush, B.W. Linn, J.J. Phillips and J.A. Meeks. At the Martinsburg detachment, troopers C.A. Ellwanger, J.B. Flanigan, Z.L. Nine, D.S. See, R.D. Eshbaugh, M.S. Armentrout, K.D. Castle, J.D. Schuessler and J.R. Barker made multiple arrests. Berkeley Springs (W.Va.) Detachment Trooper B.G. Sites also was recognized.

Meeks and Glende were recognized for "outstanding" DUI enforcement efforts, recording 10 and 12 DUI arrests, respectively, Powers said.

"Troopers assigned to Troop 2 did a remarkable job in targeting and aggressively pursuing DUI-related offenses, not only during the month of December, but the entire year of 2006," said Capt. R.A. Blair, Troop 2 commander.
