Myers: Survey needed before tank is built

SMITHSBURG - At a meeting Tuesday night, Mayor Mildred "Mickey" Myers announced that the town would have to have the area around the water storage tanks surveyed before a third tank can be constructed.

The town also must find out exactly where the transmission line leads from the reservoir into town and what utility easements the town holds in the area, Myers said.

Council accepts part of subdivision

SMITHSBURG - The Smithsburg Town Council passed a resolution accepting a portion of Orndorff Drive in the Mountain Shadows Subdivision at a meeting Tuesday night.

BBH Corporation owned the land previously.

The 14,906-square-foot plot of land is already maintained by the town, Mayor Mildred "Mickey" Myers said.

Police respond to 203 calls in December

SMITHSBURG - At a Smithsburg Town Council meeting Tuesday night, police Chief Michael S. Potter reported that the police department responded to 203 calls for service in December.


Police arrested 10 adults and six juveniles, Potter said.

The department's officers successfully completed their annual firearms qualifications, Potter said.

Smithsburg to begin Christmas planning

SMITHSBURG - On Jan. 16 at 7 p.m., Smithsburg officials will hold a meeting to review the town's annual Christmas celebration. The meeting will be held in council chambers and be open to the public, Mayor Mildred "Mickey" Myers said.

She hopes to form a committee to organize the next Christmas event, Myers said.
