Mail Call

January 03, 2007

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Mail Call works, thanks for the update on the Maugans Avenue upgrade in the paper Thursday afternoon. Now, if the county sticks to it's prediction of starting work in March of 2007..."

"To the caller accusing Bush of wanting Saddam out of power because he wanted to kill his father - well, I have news for you, Ioved my late father and I don't think I would make best friends with anyone who tried to hurt him, much less take his life. I am sure many of people in Iraq are glad the murdering, raping and torturing is over, at least the kind this very sick person inflicted on children as well as adults. His sons did the same and they are gone thanks to our brave Marines."

"I just saw on news where another young soldier was killed by an illegal alien. Point is, this is the second one in about a month. Both illegals had a record and were never sent back south of the border. Both had records of violence. One mother is suing Homeland Security for about $l00 million and I hope she wins. This may be what they need, so this does not happen in the future. The entire mess of 13 million people here illegal is outrageous and for the most part a burden for the taxpayer and hospitals never getting paid for whatever sicknesses they have, and a burden to our already over-burdened welfare system. The illegals' needs even come before the needs of our seniors and veterans."

"I was reading an item today in (You Said It) where the person in Waynesboro said about when something's on sale in a lot of stores that they still charge you the regular price. That is so true. I've come to the conclusion that I don't think 9 out of 10 people can divide or multiply. I know what I'm gonna be paying when I get up to the checkout. I just don't understand how the customers can keep quiet about it, unless they actually can't add or anything. They evidently can't do their math."

"I have said this before and I'll say it again, don't object to a new hospital, but I can't understand why the new hospital is supposedly going to have fewer rooms than the present hospital."

- Boonsboro

"I just read the letter for the teacher who doesn't want to be put on the clock. You picked your profession, and I think if things are getting too tight financially for you, maybe you should get another career. Everybody has expenses in every profession they have. Examine yours carefully."

- Clear Spring

"It'll be baseball season in a few months, and then everybody is gonna be riding the Barry Bonds bandwagon. Everybody knows he cheated. All you have to do is look at a picture from 1998 to today. As you get older, you don't get bigger, and you don't gain power. I played softball for 14 years. First year I played I hit 40 home runs. The last year I played, I hit two. You don't gain strength; you lose strength."

"I'd like to thank a man who helped me with gas in my car on Jonathan Street. That was very thoughtful. Thank you very much. It's nice to know that we have citizens like that still."

"I was reading in the paper about the big meeting about the annexation of the Boonsboro community. I've been in this town for a long, long time, and every one of these people that are on that mayor and council should all be kicked off. They should never, ever be allowed to run again. They told people when they were voted in there they were all for keeping this small town. Small town, it's been long, long gone. I hope people will really rally and get a lot of flak over this annexation. Anyone at all that's a developer gets their own way with anything they want done in this community. I think it's disgusting."

- Boonsboro

"I was reading in Mail Call about people getting people gifts for Christmas. That's nice in a way, but lately the last couple of years I've been hearing 'I'm gonna get so-and-so something for Christmas, but if something happens to them, I want it back.' I think that's downright disgraceful. That takes everything out of Christmas. I don't want anything; if I want something, I go out and buy it myself."

- Boonsboro

"I'm just curious if anybody knows when the coffeehouse is going to be open in Boonsboro. I'm really happy about this, and I can't wait."

- Keedysville

"The Herald-Mail is so biased. You don't print every call as you claim to. I know people who have called about illegals, Democrats, Hillary and Bill. It was never printed or even incorporated into another call. One friend of mine called about illegals being responsible for E coli on vegetables, due to no sanitation in migrant fields ... port-a-johns, and they were quoting from government articles. This was from recent deaths from spinach. You are always ready to print filth about Bush, just like New York Times. When my subscription is up, that's it. Besides, your newspaper is only good for wrapping dead fish."

- Funkstown

"I doubt very much Ray Lewis will make it to the Super Bowl, unless he buys tickets."
