EMS responds to calls

Smithsburg EMS responded to 91 calls for service in December, bringing the 2006 total to 1,085 responses for the year, the second highest call total since the company was organized in 1981.

In December, personnel responded to three calls in Franklin County, Pa., and to 17 in Frederick County, Md. There were 20 calls in Smithsburg and 12 in the Leitersburg area. A total of 64 patients were taken to area hospitals during the month. The most common type of call - 15 - was for vehicle accidents.
