Farm to change hands? Talk might be for you

January 02, 2007

HARRISBURG - Farmers visiting the 2007 Pennsylvania Farm Show can join a roundtable discussion to learn how to transition their farming operations to a new owner.

Sessions are Monday, Jan. 8, and Friday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Pennsylvania Room at the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center.

"With nearly 25 percent of all farms expected to change hands in the next decade, it's important that farmers have the tools to make the best possible choices for their families and businesses," Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff said.

The free program features four 30-minute topics, including "Farm Transitions Survey Results" by Jonathan Johnson of the Center for Rural Pennsylvania; "The ABC's of Succession Planning" by Dennis Hall of the Center for Farm Transitions; "Questions You Should Ask Your Attorney" by attorney Gary Heim; and "Estate Planning 101 for Agricultural Producers" by Tim Sutherland of AgChoice Farm Credit.
