United Way reaches goal

December 28, 2006

The United Way of Washington County said Tuesday that it reached its 2006 fundraising goal of $1.75 million.

Last week, the agency said it was $45,000 short of its campaign goal.

However, it secured the $20,000 in contributions, which Hagerstown businessman Vincent Groh promised to match.

It also received another $5,000 in pledges, for a total of $45,000.

The agency said in a press release that the most it had raised before was $1.7 million in 2000.

The 2005 campaign raised $1.65 million, short of the agency's goal of $1.7 million.
