Grier wins Hooters tourney

HAINES CITY, Fla. - Hagerstown's Ashley Grier won her second tournament in three weeks on the Hooters Women's Golf Tour, topping the field at Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club on Thursday.

Grier, who shot a 5-under-par 67 in the first round Tuesday and a 2-over 74 Wednesday, finished with a 2-over 74 for a three-round 215, eight shots ahead of the field and worth a first-place prize of $2,700, increasing her three-week prize money to $6,100.

"I pretty much just kept on making putts on Tuesday," said Grier before boarding a flight back to Hagerstown for the holidays. "Tuesday was a big confidence factor and (Thursday) I just played for par to win."

Her 67 on Tuesday was the second-lowest round thus far in the first six weeks of the Hooters schedule.

Grier will return to Florida when the schedule resumes Jan. 16.

Grier had picked up her initial professional victory in a playoff two weeks ago and last week finished second.
