Couple's holiday display continues family tradition

Mark Knapp never was a big fan of lavish holiday light displays and decorations.

Then, he met and married Angela Patras, whose father started the family tradition of exterior decorating as a way to spend time together.

When Len Patras moved to a new home, he decided to pass his decorations on to the Knapps.

Thus began a new tradition for the couple. Mark Knapp said this is the fourth Christmas he and Angela have decorated the front lawn of their home at 1089 Bramly Drive near Rest Haven Cemetery.

Each year, they add to their collection - this year, there's a new Santa that pops out of the chimney and four lighted wire deer - for a mix of old and new.

"Basically, it's your regular Christmas decorations, but the whole lawn is filled," Mark Knapp said.

He added that their community committee recently notified the Knapps that their house had won first place for decorations.

The couple started decorating right before Christmas, and spent three to four days decorating off and on.

"People drive by and stop," Mark Knapp said. "A lot will blow their horns and let us know they drove by."
