Photo exhibit continues at art gallery

December 21, 2006

An exhibit of photographs by Sterling "Rip" Smith continues through December at The Contemporary Art Gallery at 4 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown.

The exhibit includes a selection of classic black-and-white and color images from Smith's 40-year archive of negatives and slides, as well as digital color and infrared images.

"For those who enjoy taking photographs, you should come view 'Rip' Smith's artwork," said gallery director Ron Lytle, himself a photographer. "'Rip's images are described as having a strong sense of movement, a sense that something is about to happen."

A reception for Smith was held Dec. 1 and 2 at the gallery.

Lytle says Smith will be offering a photography course in the near future.

The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.
