You Said It

December 18, 2006

"As well as I can remember, every school board member ran on the platform to increase communications, but now that negotiations have begun with the teachers' association, they are permitting the superintendent to stop all e-mails between teachers and their professional organization. Board members and superintendents, you are either for communications or against communications."

"Let this be a lesson to all of us. Do not ever mix religion and politics when it comes to picking our next president."

"To the man who calls himself a fugitive and wants to be left alone. No one ever said life was fair. People with far less education than you are paying rent and mortgages. Some have to work two jobs and the wife works. It is your responsibility to give your child a better life. It is not healthy for the child to live in such closed quarters emotionally. God bless and good luck."

"This is for the lady who left her brown pocketbook in her shopping cart at Weis Market on Monday, Dec. 11. My wife and I saw this man that found it, and he was walking to his truck. He never even hesitated one minute to turn around and take it into the store. Believe it or not, he looked a little like Santa Claus, with his gray hair and kind of robust body. I know you will have a nicer Christmas thanks to this honest man. To the man in the big truck, all the best to you and your family at this joyous time of the year. Merry Christmas."

"To the caller in Halfway who can't wait to get (Bush) and his religious conservatives out of office: I hope you are as happy when the terrorists knock on your door. When everyone but Christians are allowed to voice their opinion, we will no longer be a nation. God is sovereign over all the universe, and He is still in control. If you're right, I have my freedom to lose. If I'm right, you could miss a home in heaven."

"Wednesday, Dec. 13, everybody's complaining about the politicians again, in the (You Said It) column. It doesn't matter - Republican or Democrat, whoever you vote for, they're only out for one thing: their pockets. If we can't see that, something's wrong. If everybody in America can't see that these people don't care about us, they're all wrong. We need to stop voting for them and get some poor independents in there if we want to take the country."

"I just read the letter in today's newspaper regarding more doctors at the hospital because of a terrible wait in the emergency room. Twelve hours is too long. This town doesn't need a new hospital; it needs another hospital. The town is growing, they're trying to build more schools. It means more kids getting sick, more injuries, more everything. The town needs to think about having two hospitals with working facilities 24 hours a day, more doctors on staff so that people don't have to wait 12 hours in the emergency room. Waiting five minutes when you're injured seems like an eternity."

"People, I'm done. I am tired of going everywhere in this fine county and hearing people speaking languages other than English. Fact: Our Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, Constitution, Bill of Rights and all our laws were or are written in English, period. If you are here, especially in our county, speak English. It's not like we are an international travel destination or something. Chances are, you live here, so speak our language."

"I saw in the morning paper where state lawmakers spent 2 1/2 hours at the Maryland Correctional Training Center. It's my opinion that this tour was nothing more than a glorified joke. Five inmates out of how many incarcerated there? They've seen the error of their ways, and through the programs they're behaving now and they're developing social skills, etc. Yeah, right. For pity's sake, they sound like potential choir boys right now. We citizens in this community know better. We hear about the stabbings and what's happening with our guards down there. Make the prison a place that offenders don't want to go to instead of an adult day care."

"While reading (You Said It) and thinking about the holidays and Christmas season, I would like to propose a question to all the good Bible-following Christians out there: Do you think that Jesus would support the war in Iraq? I think it's a very good question, and I know that there's lots of Christians out there who support the war in Iraq and think that it's a good thing. As a believer and follower of Christ, do you think that he would support the war? I'm interested to see the answers."

"To whomever left the two flags on the bridge over 81 on Salem Avenue: Thank you very much, and have a merry Christmas."
