Four 'Dogs selected to all-state first team

Martinsburg's Xavier Peters was named first-team defensive captain of the West Virginia Class AAA all-state football team on Saturday.

Peters, a senior, was one of four Martinsburg players selected to the first team by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. He led the state with 12 interceptions. He was joined on the first-team defense by teammate Bryce Hobbs (defensive line) and Jefferson linebacker Jonathan Hash, both seniors.

Martinsburg senior running back Josh Twyman and senior offensive lineman Tyler Dopson were selected to the first-team offense. Twyman became the Bulldogs' all-time leading rusher this season, racking up nearly 1,800 yards on the ground and 22 touchdowns this season.

Martinsburg's Marcus Scott was the second-team defensive captain as a utility player. Hedgesville's Bryant Snapp (defensive line) and Musselman's Cory Smith (punter) also were selected to the second team.

Musselman wide receiver Ryan Trochimowicz and Martinsburg's Andy Joiner were second-team offensive selections.

Five other players from the Eastern Panhandle received special mention and 11 more received honorable mention.
