Strength-training for spring

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - If you play baseball or softball, don't be caught out of condition. The City Hospital SMART Clinic announces a baseball and softball strengthening camp for adolescent athletes.

Beginning Saturday, Dec. 16, the SMART Clinic will offer a strengthening program designed to get baseball and softball players into top form for spring training. The program includes pre- and post-testing, information on injury prevention, specific baseball training exercises and tips on increasing fastball velocity.

The instructors include former collegiate baseball players and exercise specialists. Personalized training will be offered twice weekly.

The SMART Clinic begins Saturday and continues through Saturday, Feb. 17. The cost is $80. Program participation is limited.

Coed volleyball

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg-Berkelely County Parks & Recreation is accepting registration for the 2007 Winter Adult Co-Ed Volleyball League. Participants must register as a team. Youth soccer - indoors

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is accepting registration for the 2007 Youth Indoor Soccer League. The program will be held Saturday afternoons from Thursday, Jan. 4, through Sunday, March 11, at the Ramer Center. Registration is open to any boy or girl ages 8 to 13 as of Sept. 1, 2006. Registrants will be divided by age. Cost to participate is $20 per person.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Marlana Beitzel, sport aerobic national champion, will conduct sport aerobic classes at Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation. Two four-week sessions will be offered at the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays for ages 7 through adult. Session I begins Jan. 17, and session II begins Feb. 14. Cost for the class is $36 per session.

Activities at the Y

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -Waynesboro YMCA will offer the following activities:

· Holiday gymnastics/cheer camp - 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Wednesday, Dec. 27. The schedule is: gymnastics from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon, tumbling from noon to 2 p.m., cheer from 2 to 4 p.m. For beginners and experienced students.

· Teen City basketball league - Seventh to 12th-grade league will begin Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Y. Held on Saturdays through March. Players will be drafted onto balanced teams.

· Winter racquetball league - Sign up is open to members and nonmembers. Deadline to register is Friday, Jan. 5. All skill levels are welcome.

· Adult indoor soccer - 8:15 to 10 p.m. Thursdays in gymnasium II. Ages 15 and older. Pick-up style. Free to members, $10 plus program pass for nonmembers.

· Y's Nest Preschool - Registration for the 2006-07 year is in progress. The 3- and 4-year-old programs offer age-appropriate activities, swimming, gym, Bible time and more. Space is available for both ages.

· Rage cheerleading - Reserve a spot on the 2006-07 competition teams. Limited spaces are still available on some squads.

· Tai Chi-Arthritis Foundation - Tai Chi is the most prominent Chinese martial art of internal style which puts emphasis on breathing. Movements are slow, helps with balance, range of motion, coordination and more. Sign up for the January session.
