North Welty Road project nears final approval

December 14, 2006|by KATE S. ALEXANDER

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Developers for an 87-unit development of multifamily homes along North Welty Road might finally be able to begin construction.

At a workshop meeting of the Washington Township Supervisors, the board discussed final plans for the 12.2-acre Antietam Commons Development and placed it on the agenda for a vote Monday.

Board chairman Carroll Sturm said the development was first proposed about four years ago and since has gone through various changes and delays.

A decision on Monday will be the final decision on the development, township manager Mike Christopher said.

He explained that the plans which the board will vote on Monday are "the exact same plans as approve earlier but with provisions to shorten some of the lots to provide for more open space."

If supervisors approve the plans as amended, Christopher said the developer could begin work as soon as the new plan is recorded with the courthouse.
