Funkstown to replace furnace

December 12, 2006|by KAREN HANNA

FUNKSTOWN - In their toasty meeting room, Funkstown Town Council members voiced agreement about the inefficiency of the furnace. The decision about what to do about it was not as unanimous.

The council voted 4-1 to approve a proposal by resident Barry Warrenfeltz of Warrenfeltz Refrigeration to replace the furnace at the town hall.

During a recent inspection of the furnace, Warrenfeltz told the council that he found the town's office space heated to 76 degrees, even though the thermostat was set at 72 degrees. Warrenfeltz estimated the town could save about $840 a year by replacing the furnace, which is running at about 70 percent efficiency. A new furnace would pay for itself in four years, he said.

Saying he disagreed with spending so much money on an unbudgeted, nonemergency item, Town Councilman Robert D. Rodgers Jr. voted against replacing the furnace.
