Health tests offered today

Prevention Health Group will offer five quick, painless, non-invasive health tests beginning at 9 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown.

A carotid artery screening will show your risk of stroke; also included will be a test to look for abdominal aneurysms, a screening that checks for hardening of the arteries in the legs, an osteoporosis bone density screening and a pulmonary lung function test.

The tests are read by a board-certified physician and cost $26 each when you get all five done. The results are given directly to you and you are referred back to your own doctor. Call 800-446-0925 for information. Space is limited.

Mind, body and spirit wellness

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Trinity United Church of Christ is offering a new educational opportunity focused on promoting wellness of mind, body and spirit. The TUCC Wellness Group is open to anyone in the community interested in learning more about wellness. The group meets on the second Sunday of every month to discuss a topic related to health.

Weight loss information session

FREDERICK, Md. - A free weight loss information session will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, and noon Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Frederick Memorial Hospital Wellness Center, FSK Mall, 5500 Buckeystown Pike.

Stroke risk reduction screenings

Life Line Screening will offer screenings on Thursday, Jan. 11, aimed at reducing the chance of having a stroke. The screenings will take place at Avalon Manor, 14014 Marsh Pike, Hagerstown. Appointments begin at 9 a.m.

Using ultrasound technology, the screenings scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms, and hardening of the arteries in the legs. A bone density screening will assess the risk of osteoporosis.

All four screenings take less than an hour to complete. A complete vascular screening package, including the stroke/carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm and ankle brachial index screenings costs $109. A complete vascular package, which includes osteoporosis screening, costs $129.
