St. James 61, Bishop Walsh 60

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Spencer Draper's only three points of the game came on a 3-pointer at the buzzer that gave St. James (2-2) a hard-fought victory over Bishop Walsh on Saturday.

Mike Russ had 28 points, 13 rebounds and four assists while T.K. Washington added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Draper had five assists for the Saints.


Chambersburg 61, Williamsport 45

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Allee Rife had a triple-double, recording 11 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists to lead Chambersburg over Williamsport.


Logan Lentz had 19 points, three assists and three steals for the Trojans (3-0).

Morgan Smith scored 15 points and Leah Mellott added 10 for the Wildcats (0-1).

Martinsburg 61, John Marshall 38

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Dakeea Marshall scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Martinsburg.

Iesha Robinson contributed 15 points and Sherelle Lockart added 10 for the Bulldogs (2-0).


Smithsburg's Hovermale wins

PARKVILLE, Md. - Smithsburg's Justin Hovermale won the 152-pound championship at the Parkville invitational on Saturday.

The Leopards had seven other top-5 wrestlers. Finishing second were James Reilly (130) and Jeremy Harbaugh (189). Brandon Knight (145) and Dan Rinebolt (171) were third, Monica Hovermale (103) was fourth and Jon Gauss and Dave Ridenour were fifth (135).

North 4th at Bowie

BOWIE, Md. - North Hagerstown finished fourth in the 9-school Bowie Duals on Saturday with a 5-3 team match record.

Quince Orchard was first at 8-0, Westlake was second at 7-1 and Hammond was third at 6-2.

Jake Turner (140 pounds), Jim Eichelberger (145) and Josh Borland (171) each went 7-1 in the Duals.

North defeated Bowie 47-33, Archbishop Spalding 38-36, South River 48-27, Friendly 61-18 and Bishop McNamara 60-18. the Hubs lost to Westlake 40-33, Hammond 69-6 and Quince Orchard, 46-22.

Mercersburg 3-1 in Duals

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Mercersburg Academy won three matches in its Classic Duals on Saturday.

The Blue Storm defeated St. Albans 54-27, Georgetown Prep 44-29 and Eaton (Ohio) 39-34. Mercersburg lost to Sidwell Friends, 35-30.

St. James went 1-3, defeating St. Albans, 51-28. The Saints lost to Georgetown Prep, Lawrenceville and Kiski Prep.

Tyler Mort, Bobby Wolford, Dan Mazzei and Adam Barnette all went 4-0 for Mercersburg.


Kelso, Robinson MVPs

North Hagerstown swept the Monocacy Valley Athletic League's Beef O'Brady's offensive and defensive honors.

Quarterback Logan Kelso, who threw for 19 touchdowns, was named the top offensive player. Linebacker Cadyn Robinson, with 156 tackles, was the top defensive player.

North kicker Chris Reid was named the top special teams player, averaging nearly 40 yards a punt and hitting 42 PAT's.

Boonsboro coach Clayton Anders shared coach of the year honors with North's Dan Cunningham.

In the Piedmont Conference, Middletown's Kevin Linehan and Frederick's Damien Wallace shared top offensive honors and Frederick's Quentin Ferguson won defensive honors. Lorne Ridenour, of Middletown, was coach of the year.

In the Chesapeake Conference, top offensive honors went to Urbana's Ryan Smith and defensive honors went to Jeff Phillips of Linganore. Thomas Johnson's Ben Wright was coach of the year.
