Mercersburg students featured on NPR

Mercersburg, Pa. - "From the Top," National Public Radio's showcase for young classical musicians hosted by Christopher O'Riley, recorded an episode Nov. 28 at Mercersburg Academy's Burgin Center for the Arts' Simon Theatre.

The show at the Burgin Center featured the following students:

· Julie Sohn, 15, a pianist who performed the first movement of Beethoven's Sonata No. 8 in C minor.

· Benjamin Hyman, 17, a baritone who sang "Sylvie" by Gabriel Faure.

· Piotr Filochowski, 15, a violinist who performed Bazzini's "La Ronde des Lutins."

· Priscilla Wadsworth, 16, a flutist who performed the Allegro from Joaquin Rodrio's Concierto Pastorale

· Alexis Smith, 17, a trombone player who performed the Sonatina for Trombone and Piano by Jacques Casterede.

The radio show is heard Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on WITF-FM, and on 250 other radio stations nationwide.

The episode is scheduled to air Jan. 9, 2007, on WITF, with most of the other NPR stations airing the show the following weekend.
