I-81 overpass work in Pa. to begin next week

December 08, 2006

MARION, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation next week will begin overpass improvements along the Interstate 81 corridor in Franklin County, Pa., with the first project being the Pa. 914 bridge.

"This Swamp Fox Road thing is the start of big stuff," PennDOT spokesman Michael Crochunis said.

The $808,000 contract with Jay Fulkroad & Sons of McAlisterville, Pa., was done separately from the other bridges scheduled for work in the county, Crochunis said.

The contractor will remove and replace the bridge deck on the Pa. 914 overpass.

Demolition, scheduled to begin Jan. 8, could lead to lane closures on Interstate 81 in attempts to protect vehicles from debris, Crochunis said.
