Various downtown merchants will be hosting holiday open houses Friday and Saturday, offering refreshments and specials.

Caroling, luminarias and appearances by Frosty and Rudolph also will be featured.

The Boonsboro Volunteer Fire Co. will sell limited-edition Christmas tree ornaments featuring the Washington Monument.

On Saturday, the Christmas decorating contest will get under way. Beginning at dusk, judges will be looking for houses with the best- decorated doors and businesses with the best-decorated windows.
