Teen Idol contest set

Washington County Free Library and The Maryland Theatre is sponsoring a Teen Idol contest for ages 16 to 19. Entrants must be 16 years old by Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007.

The contest is open to single artists only; no bands. Audition tapes limited to two songs. Submit tapes to Washington County Free Library system by Feb. 28. Tapes will not be returned.

Live competitions will be held at The Maryland Theatre. Semi-finals will be held Saturdays, April 14 and 28. The final competition will be held Saturday, May 5.

The winner will receive a free trip to New York City to audition for "American Idol."

Bird count scheduled

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society has scheduled its annual Christmas bird count on Saturday, Dec. 16, and Saturday, Dec. 30.


The Dec. 16 count will take place in the Charles Town, W.Va., area. The Dec. 30 count will be around Inwood, W.Va.

These local counts are part of a national bird count. The purpose is to monitor the status and distribution of early winter bird populations.

Photo show set

Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery will hold a juried photography show in January. Work may be submitted to the gallery at 4 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown.

There is a $25 non-refundable application fee per photographer. Each artist is limited to three pieces. Deadline for submissions is Sunday, Dec. 17. Submissions must be framed and ready to hang on the wall.

The overall winner will have the opportunity for a solo show at the Contemporary Art Gallery. Call 301-791-6191.
